The Case for Mike Kafka

Hi, I’m Pat Fitzgerald and I’m here to tell you why Mike Kafka should be the MVP of the Big Ten. You know why? Because I say so!
“I am a little biased, obviously, but I don’t think there is any player in this conference that means more to his football team than Mike Kafka. To me, that’s what an MVP is.
Obviously, there’s a lot of great players in this league, a lot of talent in this league. But at the end of the day I think Mike Kafka is not only our MVP, I believe he’s an all-Big Ten quarterback and the MVP of the Big Ten conference.”
Now let me tell you why, all you little newspaper minions. You’re the morons that will probably give all the honors to Daryll Clark.
Check your facts, Jim. Check your facts, Teddy and Lindsey and Revver. Mike Kafka is deserving. He’s SOUTH SIDE TOUGH.
In Big Ten games, since that’s all that really matters, Mike is third in passing yards per game (245), ahead of Clark. He’s second in total offense (270), ahead of Clark. He’s sixth in pass efficiency. Okay, Clark is first. Mike has also only thrown 4 interceptions. The only other guy in the conference to do that is Juice Williams. Why? Because the damn kid doesn’t play!
If you’re looking for an All-Big-Ten quarterback, it’s Mike Kafka. Penn State would still be good without Clark, but without Mike, well, I hate to say it, but our team does not win eight games. He’s the MVP, he’s the best quarterback in the league, and by damn, he’s SOUTH SIDE TOUGH!
(Meanwhile, Mike is tied up and gagged, since Fitz doesn’t want him to say anything about how his offensive line made all the difference).
I think it was perfectly fair for Fitz to put in one of his players for league MVP, especially given the lack of a standout player across the entire conference. The fact is that NU is arguably the 2nd hottest team in the conference right now and it’s fairly obvious that Kafka’s passing has a lot to do with that (and that from a guy nobody expected to throw the ball well at all coming into the year).
I doubt Kafka will get MVP, but he deserves to be named to one of the all-conference teams at QB, at least, and Fitz put his name out there – something the rest of the media hasn’t really done.
